Dyan Cannon plays Annie Hackett, a single Mom who sings and dances to rock music as she cleans the kitchen, adding to the embarrassment of her two children who think she is just trying to act young.

She is in an oldies trio "The Sweet Peas" where her friends "trap" her into singing one of her own rock songs one night. A tape of her singing makes it to a record label where Jeff Robins (Michael Brandon) likes what he hears and wants to use her songs for the labels main singer Darcy X.

Darcy has a prima dona hissy fit and leaves Jeff with a recording session and no singer.
